    To Parents, Caregivers, and Staff:

Yesterday we were notified that one of our Lenape Elementary students has tested positive for COVID-19. The student had been incorrectly given a release from the Ulster County Department of Health that indicated that they were cleared to return to school on Thursday in response to a family member needing to quarantine.  A check of the student’s paperwork confirmed the error which required the student to complete the remainder of the quarantine period.   The student had little contact with other students while at Lenape Thursday morning as the student’s movements were limited. At the time, the student showed no symptoms and did not have a temperature. Once it was determined that the student should be returned to quarantine, the student was sent home.

The student had been transported by a school bus Thursday morning.  It was determined after a careful review of the bus seating assignments that one student needed to quarantine due to the length of time the students were on the bus and their proximity to one another.  This determination followed guidance from the Ulster County Department of Health, Criteria for Quarantine.

Please remember, COVID-19 symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus and include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. If your child experiences any of these symptoms, please keep them home from school and closely monitor them. Consult with your child’s doctor for advice whenever needed.

Once again, we urge vigilance and responsibility. Please do not hesitate to contact the nurse’s office if you have any questions or concerns, however, please understand that student privacy will continue to be protected as required by law. Please contact Principal Inglee at 256-4300 or Nurse Maria Meoli at 256-4310.

We hope you will join us in extending healthy wishes to the student and their family for a speedy recovery process.

    Sincerely,

    Angela Urbina-Medina

    Superintendent of Schools
