To Parents, Caregivers, and Staff:
Yesterday we were made aware of two COVID-19 positive situations that we would like to bring to your attention.
One of our Nordic Ski Team members tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, February 1. The student last participated in a meet at Rondout with the team on Friday, January 29. The student was not symptomatic on Friday and does not attend classes at New Paltz High School. Several students on the New Paltz Nordic Ski Team are required to quarantine due to the circumstances of the contact that they had with the positive student. All required reporting to the Department of Health has taken place and all those requiring quarantine have been notified.
Additionally, one of our high school teachers has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The teacher was last in attendance on Friday, January 29 and was not experiencing any symptoms. The teacher began to experience symptoms on Saturday, January 30, which resulted in a positive result on Monday, February 1. All students and staff who had contact with the teacher have been notified. No staff or students are required to quarantine based on the metrics we follow from the Department of Health.
Please remember, COVID-19 symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus and include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. If your child experiences any of these symptoms, please keep them home from school and closely monitor. Consult with your child’s doctor for advice whenever needed.
Once again, we urge vigilance and responsibility. Please do not hesitate to contact the nurse’s office if you have any questions or concerns, however, please understand that student privacy will continue to be protected as required by law. Please contact Principal Fernandez at 256-4100 or Nurse Sandy at 256-4110.
We hope you will join us in extending healthy wishes to the student and their family for a speedy recovery process.
Sincerely,
Angela Urbina-Medina
