  • Construction Industry Council of Westchester & Hudson Valley, Inc.

Posted by April Miller on 1/8/2025

For the past 25 years the Construction Industry Council, along with our partners in the trades, we have hosted a career day for students in the Hudson Valley.

This is a great day to find out about the trades and have some hands-on experience with many of our unions and contractors.

The past number of years we’ve held the event at Rockland Community College, run during the school day and they come on a bus with their counselors and have a great experience. This year it will be on Friday, March 28th. The event is so popular with the students and schools it fills up quickly.

New this year, will be a Construction Career Fair on Thursday evening, from 5:30 – 8:30 for students, parents and counselors.

We’re creating this evening for a couple of reasons, mainly to increase the opportunity for more students to come, as we have a limited number of spots available on Friday and not all can attend. But also, it gives the opportunity for parents to attend with their child and learn about these opportunities and the career paths that are out there and have very positive income potential. Please see the parent flyer HERE

We have a lot of news to announce regarding our Physical Therapy program and DPT Early Assurance!

    1. Our Physical Therapy students can now complete their DPT degree in 2.5 years (8 semesters) whereas the previous program took three years.  One less semester lowers the overall cost of earning their DPT degree and gets the graduates into the job market sooner.

    1. We’re officially no longer requiring the SAT or ACT for applicants to our 3+3 and 4+3 DPT Early Assurance programs.

    1. We have our first 4+3 DPT Early Assurance agreement!  We’ve partnered with SUNY Potsdam and admitted 4+3 students can attend SUNY Potsdam for Exercise Science (Clinical track).  The benefits:

      1. They will have a faculty advisor at Potsdam who advises them during their undergraduate years.
      2. The Exercise Science (Clinical track) curriculum has been designed to meet all prerequisites for the Physical Therapy program at SUNY Upstate and all the degree requirements for the Exercise Science, BS degree at Potsdam.

Admitted 4+3 DPT Early Assurance students can continue to attend the accredited college of their choice, for the major of their choice.  And all admitted 4+3 students will also work with the DPT Early Assurance Admissions Advisor at SUNY Upstate.

    1. 4. Lastly, we’re hosting DPT Early Assurance Virtual Information Sessions in December for high school students considering a career as a Physical Therapist.  High school students of every grade level are welcome to attend.  Please share the attached flyer with your students.
