Return to School After Illness
After consultation with the UCDOH, the following procedures for determining when students who have experienced COVID-19 symptoms can return to the in-person learning environment at school were developed. This protocol includes:
Documentation from a health care provider following an evaluation. The documentation from a health care provider must include a diagnosis with a condition or illness other than COVID-19 (which cannot be an unconfirmed acute illness such as a viral upper respiratory illness), the expected duration of the symptoms, and a physician’s clearance to return to school. OR
A negative COVID-19 diagnostic test result. A negative COVID-19 diagnostic test result must be provided in writing to the school nurse. OR
Symptom resolution. Symptom resolution is defined as at least 10 days from onset of symptoms and the student has no symptoms remaining without using medication for 24 hours (updated 11/19/21)  If a student is symptomatic following a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and their symptomatology follows a typical course (3-4 days after dosage) then proof of vaccination may be accepted to return to school.

• Students may not return to school unless appropriate documentation has been provided, the parent has spoken with the school nurse, and the nurse has cleared the student to return.
• If a student has a positive COVID-19 test result, before returning to school the individual must be released from isolation by the NYSDOH. Proof of release from quarantine must be provided to the health office and the nurse must clear the individual to return.
• The District requires that individuals who were exposed to the COVID-19 virus complete quarantine and be symptom-free before returning to in-person learning. A NYSDOH written release from quarantine must be provided to the health office and the nurse must clear the individual to return. Quarantine requirements for close contacts are typically 10 days from the date of last exposure while self-monitoring for symptoms occurs for 14 days. It is also recommended that close contacts are tested five days or more after exposure
