• Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We hope that the winter break was enjoyable and restorative for you and your families.

This fall, parents were given the option of choosing either a hybrid or all-remote instructional model for their children for the first semester of school. As we approach the end of the semester, anyone who wishes to request a change for the remainder of the year is now able to do so by completing this form: https://forms.gle/prTMjFoEG9tuDH3t7 The deadline for requesting a change is Thursday, January 14. If you do not plan to request a change to your student’s learning model, then no action is required.

To minimize health and safety risks and manage the complexities associated with scheduling changes and their impact on teaching and learning, we are asking parents and caregivers to once again commit to their child’s intended learning platform (whether it be hybrid or all-remote) for the entire semester, which will take us through the end of the school year. Such changes impact cohort populations, our staffing requirements, and our ability to open the building at any given time.

We cannot predict if there will be a need for us to suspend in person instruction again due to issues related to COVID-19.  As you are aware during this school year we have had to shift to remote only instruction in one or all of our buildings due to the impact of staffing because of mandatory quarantines.  With that being said, the Centers for Disease Control and the New York State Department of Education have been encouraged by the safety of in-person /hybrid instruction during the pandemic.

We agree that students’ social-emotional well-being, as well as academic progress, are best met when physically in school. We have worked hard to create healthy, safe, and effective learning spaces that comply with the guidance and mandates we are required to follow.  We know that we can count on you to make a decision that is based on what is best for the safety and well-being of your child and family.

We understand that unforeseeable circumstances may arise, where you have a need for flexibility, In such cases, we ask you to contact your child’s building principal for assistance.

If you have any further questions, please contact your school building principal.

Thank you for your support throughout these challenging times.

    Sincerely,

    Angela Urbina-Medina

    Superintendent
