Statement of Support for Transgender Community

  • The New Paltz Central School District Board of Education reaffirms its commitment to equal justice through our unwavering support and assurance of equal dignity for the transgender members of our District and the wider community.

The New Paltz BOE denounces the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ finalization of a rule that revokes non-discrimination protections for transgender people in section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act and effectively sanctions discrimination against transgender people in healthcare.

The New Paltz Central School District’s commitment to the whole child demands that we honor each student on their terms and in the context of the rich plurality of our community. The Board considers any effort by the Federal government to infringe upon or deny the rights of transgender people to be unethical, immoral, and antithetical to the guiding principles of the United States Constitution.

The District will continue to adopt policies and implement practices that honor and defend the equal dignity of all persons, especially those who face specific and statistically disproportionate risk and discrimination.

    With respect and support,

    Glenn LaPolt--Vice President
