• Whole-Child Education

In New Paltz Central School District, we believe in creating equitable learning environments for all students. We know that means that we must create classrooms for students that support the whole child and that address academic, social, physical and cognitive needs, ensuring that all aspects of a child’s growth are supported. The relationships that students foster with their teachers and with their peers are key drivers of learning and development. The science of learning tells us that students must feel emotional, intellectual, and physical safety; connectedness, support; challenge; engagement; respect; and agency. Our classrooms must be culturally responsive, connecting learning and instruction to students’ experiences, cultural resources, and individual identities. Beginning with our youngest learners, our teachers help students develop positive relationships, regulate their emotions, build social competence, and  achieve academically. Our schools and classrooms must be supportive of students’ identities, and foster a sense of belonging, as these are conditions for learning.

Educational Programs at NPCSD therefore include support for our students’ academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive development.
