    To Parents, Caregivers, and Staff:

Today we identified that one of our New Paltz High School staff members is a “designated positive” for COVID-19.   The staff member was last on campus on Friday, January 22,  and at that time was not symptomatic.  A designated positive is an individual who has symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and has not received test results or an alternative diagnosis from a primary health care provider within 48 hours of initial diagnosis.  The students who had proximate contact with the staff member will need to quarantine. Notifications have been made to all proximate contacts, along with the Ulster County Department of Health.

Please remember, COVID-19 symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus and include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. If your child experiences any of these symptoms, please keep them home from school and closely monitor. Consult with your child’s doctor for advice whenever needed.

Once again, we urge vigilance and responsibility. Please do not hesitate to contact the nurse’s office if you have any questions or concerns, however, please understand that student privacy will continue to be protected as required by law. Please contact Principal Fernandez at 256-4102 or Nurse Sandy Hekking at 256-4110.

We hope you will join us in extending healthy wishes to the student and their family for a speedy recovery process.

    Sincerely,

    Angela Urbina-Medina
