    Mask Mandate Update

    On Tuesday afternoon, we were informed by NYS Commissioner of Education Betty A. Rosa that the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court has officially issued a “stay” temporarily blocking Monday night’s NYS Supreme Court ruling on the mask mandate. She reasserted the State Education Department’s earlier directive that schools must continue to follow the mask mandate.

    We understand that there are different views on the matter of masks, however as a New York public school district, we are under the direction of the New York State Department of Education. We hope our community can appreciate this position and understands that our greatest priority is always to the health and safety of our students and staff.

    This issue will not be decided until the appeals court makes a ruling. While the issue is being deliberated, please remember that although individuals may have a different view about the mask mandate, we are still one community. Please show one another civility and respect.

    Mask Rule Still in Effect

     

    Dear Staff, Students, and Families,

    You may be aware of a Nassau County Supreme Court ruling last night concerning the constitutionality of Governor Hochul’s mask mandate. 

    Following the announcement of the court’s decision, the New York State Education Department informed us that the state is appealing the ruling, and as such there is an automatic “stay” that restores the decision until the appellate court makes a ruling. In light of this announcement, schools are directed to continue to require the wearing of masks at this time.

    This means that there is no change to the mask protocols we have been following in our schools.
