    To Parents, Caregivers, and Staff:

Today we have identified that one of our New Paltz High School student athletes is a “designated positive” for COVID-19.   The student was last on campus on Wednesday, February 17,  and began feeling symptomatic while at practice.   A designated positive is an individual who has symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and has not received test results or an alternative diagnosis from a primary health care provider within 48 hours of initial diagnosis.  The teammates of the student athlete along with the coaches have been notified and will need to quarantine. Required notifications have been made to the Ulster County Department of Health.

Please remember, COVID-19 symptoms may appear two to 14 days after exposure to the virus and include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. If your child experiences any of these symptoms, please keep them home from school and closely monitor. Consult with your child’s doctor for advice whenever needed.

Once again, we urge vigilance and responsibility. Please do not hesitate to contact the nurse’s office if you have any questions or concerns, however, please understand that student privacy will continue to be protected as required by law. Please contact Principal Fernandez at 256-4102 or Nurse Sandy Hekking at 256-4110.

We hope you will join us in extending healthy wishes to all involved.

    Sincerely,

    Angela Urbina-Medina
