• New Paltz Board of Education Elects a New President and Vice-President (8/31/2022) 

     

    The New Paltz Central School District (NPCSD) has announced that Johanna Herget has been elected to serve as president of the Board of Education and Matthew Williams was elected to Herget’s former position as vice-president. Herget is taking the reigns over from Bianca Tanis, who resigned due to time constraints before recommending Herget to fill the remainder of her term, a recommendation the Board unanimously voted to accept. 

     

    “After much consideration, I realized that at this time, I am not able to devote the resources and time required to serve as board president, especially in the midst of a superintendent search,” Tanis explained. She noted the increased commitment necessary to lead the Board through the superintendent search as just one example of the demands on her time. “By stepping down from the presidency, I can still continue to serve on the Board with my full commitment to those responsibilities, while also focusing on my family and my professional life.” Tanis expressed “full confidence” in Herget and William’s ability to provide “thoughtful and strong leadership for the board.” 

     

    Herget has run her own acupuncture practice serving predominantly women and children over 15 years, with a focus on pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care. This is Herget’s second year serving on the Board. She also served seven years on the board of the Huguenot Street Cooperative Nursery School and has one child at Lenape Elementary School and two at the Middle School. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design, as well as a Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Touro College in Manhattan. “I have a strong belief in public education and am looking forward to leading a collaborative effort in the hiring of a new Superintendent,” Herget said. 

     

    The next Board of Education meeting will be held on September 7.
