New Paltz High School Cited as School of Excellence
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) has released its School of Excellence Awards for the 2022-2023 school year and New Paltz High School (NPHS) made the list! NPHS has been recognized as a School of Excellence along with 219 schools across New York State, meaning that at least 75 percent of New Paltz teams received the scholar-athlete team award. For a team to receive the scholar-athlete team award, 75 percent of the team’s roster must have attained a grade point average of 90 percent or above.
Schools can apply for School of Distinction status by having 100 percent of its varsity teams qualify for and receive the scholar-athlete team award during their respective sports seasons. The purpose of the School of Excellence Awards is to unite athletic departments in challenging their teams to achieve a statewide academic honor. Health, Physical Education, and Athletics Director Gregory Warren said that while New Paltz’s student-athletes earned the recognition, the awards are also a credit to the entire school community that supports them. “We are very proud of the consistent and high achieving academic performance of our student-athletes,” he said. “Our student-athletes prioritize and value their work in the classroom and on the field of competition.”
